Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Office Services Supervisor II, the Office Technician (OT) (Typing) serves as the Court Clerk in the Workers Compensation Division, performing a wide range of the most difficult clerical duties. In that role, the OT evaluates a variety of incoming legal documents and correspondence using the Electronic Adjudication Management System (EAMS). The incumbent will also provide assistance to the Disability Evaluation Unit (DEU), the workers' compensation judges, and court personnel.

Working Conditions

The OT(T) works in a smoke-free DWC Office under LED lighting, controlled temperature, quiet to moderate noise levels; equipped with cubicles computer, and other office equipment. Ability to retrieve and transport legacy box files in a safe manner.

The Marina del Rey office is located at Lincoln Blvd. and Mindanao Way in the Marina Square Shopping Center. It is conveniently located within walking distance to several supermarkets and restaurants including Trader Joe's, Pavilions, Peets Coffee, Susie Cakes, Chipotle, Shake Shack, and California Pizza Kitchen. The Burton Chase Park is also within walking distance as is Fisherman's Wharf.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.

The position requires the ability to type at a minimum speed of not less than 40 words per minute for ordinary manuscript or printed typewritten materials.

• Excellent organizational skills to prioritize work assignments or projects.

• Excellent general office skills working in a team environment

• Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel, Outlook).

• Ability to: perform difficult clerical work, including ability to spell correctly; use good English; make arithmetical computations; operate various office machines; follow oral and written directions; evaluate situations accurately and take effective action; read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; make clear and comprehensive reports and keep difficult records; meet and deal tactfully with the public; apply specific laws, rules and office policies and procedures; prepare correspondence independently utilizing a wide knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and spelling; communicate effectively; provide functional guidance.
