Job Description

We are looking to bring in a 1 year fixed term Web Developer II to be part of our Student Information Systems team within Student and Academic Services. Our goal is to continue work on a Navigator Project. The Navigator project is focused on creating an optimum experience for our students and staff as they navigate through classes, enrollment and progress to degrees. If you are a visionary looking to add to the overall student experience at Stanford, we are exciting to meet you.

CORE DUTIES:

Design, implement, and deploy web-based applications and websites from initial design and architecture through development, test, and deployment.

Work on the Navigator team to review figma designs from our web designer, evaluate accessibility and determine logic and functionality to develop the pages using our Navigator technical structure through deployment.

Work with business users and collaborate with backend developers or service providers to implement frontend applications based on design markup or business requirements using selected frontend technology & framework.Incorporate best practices in website accessibility, SEO optimization, and responsive frontend design to ensure website useability and code maintainability.

Implement and maintain content management systems, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and creation of Stanford-specific modules.

Design, develop and implement a photo and content management deployment system that can be utilized by our UI design team to store and deploy photos and content to Navigator projects and websites

Evaluate third-party modules for functionality, accessibility, security, and maintainability.

Identify and evaluate third party software solutions that may assist with the Navigator Project development, testing or deployment working in partnership with the DEV team.May require submissions of DRA to Stanford Security office for evaluation.

Working with the SIS development team to evaluate and integrate third-party frontend libraries and modules to enhance frontend application functionality, security, and performance

Perform selected website administration duties for existing clients. Ensure web server and site technical performance.

Monitor the Navigator.stanford.edu site to ensure that it is always operational, secured if needed as well as providing appropriate upgrades as needed to maintain Stanford UIT protocols, including accessibility.Monitor and report site statistics to the AVP and UI/UX director on student and staff usage and experience.

Collaborate with the SIS development team and cloud support team to monitor website analytics, system health, and production support in general. 

Create web pages and tools for Stanford websites using core technologies.Create and/or modify clean, well-structured, search engine optimization-friendly documented code.

Work with the SIS and UI/UX teams as needed to create accessible web pages in support of SAS intranet site.

Work with business users to incorporate SEO best practices into the application. 

Provide technical expertise in front- and back-end web development.Support web infrastructure by providing end-user support, applications maintenance, product evaluation, back-end development, and internal management tools.

Work as a member of a development team and collaborate best solutions for front and back end web development. javascript, php, laravel and reactSupport the Navigator infrastructure by providing end user support, enhancements, evaluation as well as any newly required management tools.Be well versed to train or usejavascript, php, Laravel and NextJS.

Work as a member of the SIS development team to implement the best solutions for creating and supporting state-of-the-art web applications.Actively participate in the full cycle of application development from coding, QA, deployment to end-user support.

Interpret website design and layout visually in a creative, contemporary style and fully integrated manner. Ensure high quality and consistent look and feel across multiple devices and browsers.

Work with the SIS and UI/UX teams, to design consistent websites across multiple devices and browsers of the Navigator web applications.

Create reusable and adaptive UI components to enhance user experience, optimize website performance, and reduce code complexity.

Optimize the display of original online content, and collaborate with content manager to produce animated gifs, static buttons, and email and landing pages.

Working with requirements from the UI/UX team and Figma designs optimize the content to be displayed in Navigator.

Work with site architects to develop and document functional specifications based on requirements gathered from stakeholders. Support the implementation of life-cycle.

Work with the SIS development team to document functional requirements across SAS in support of design or enhancement of the Navigator project and overall SAS web application vision.

Help develop and deploy upgrade/migration plans for existing content management system as needed.

Using requirements defined by the UI/UX team, create, test, deploy and maintain a content management system that allows the UI/UX team to maintain photos, program content that can be used and deployed to Navigator and any additional SAS systems including but not limited to Navigate My Academic Path and Coursedog.

Keep track of project dependencies and manage the project build/install process.Lead the process of dependency upgrades, integration, and production migration.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to develop web content management systems.

Demonstrated ability to develop complex websites and web applications using open source tools, languages, libraries, and current standards-compliant code.

Knowledge of web content development and cloud services.

Expert level knowledge of front-end development languages and ability to hand code HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Solid understanding of web standards and usability methods.

Expert knowledge of content management systems, such as Drupal, including the ability to perform standard installation and configuration.

Demonstrated ability to write, compile, test, debug, and deploy software.

Knowledge of web analytics tools and related analyses.

Ability to design and manage relational databases.

Ability to design and implement web services.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience in building web applications with rich frontend design using HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript. TypeScript experience is preferred.

Expertise in React or NextJS, including statement management and component-based architecture.

Ability to implement responsive and adaptive design to ensure optimal user experience across different devices.

Experience in performance optimization techniques, SEO, and cross-browser compatibility support.

Proficient with Git for version control and collaboration.   Experience in using Github project is a plus.

Experience in integrating with web analytic tools is strongly recommended.

Knowledge of PHP Laravel framework, and cloud search service is a plus.

Ability to interact positively with and build consensus among a diverse group of colleagues, clients, and senior leadership.

 

The expected pay range for this position is $ 80,000 to $120,000 per annum.

This is a hybrid position which requires 2 days of on-site work per week (currently Tuesday and Thursday) in Stanford’s Redwood City campus.
